How does rent to own cars work?

You rent a quality used car from EzAuto on a monthly rental agreement and take up the option to own it at the end of the term. You apply online, EzAuto assesses affordability on your income instead of your credit record, you pay a rental deposit from 10% of the vehicle value, and the car is delivered — usually within 2 to 7 business days. Rentals start from R1,750 a week — billed monthly at about R7,583 a month — including insurance, tracking, roadside assistance and licence.

What is rent to own cars?

Rent to own cars is a rental agreement on a vehicle with an option to own it at the end of the term. It is not vehicle finance and not a loan, so only a soft credit check is done. You pay a fixed rental, debited monthly, for the use of the car and, at the end of the 60-month term, you can take up the purchase option for R5,000.

Who qualifies to rent to own a car?

You need a gross income from R14,000 a month, a valid South African ID and a valid driver's licence. We assess affordability rather than your credit record, so blacklisted and debt-review applicants can apply. Bring 3 months of bank statements if you are employed, or 6 months if you are self-employed.

Which cars can I rent to own?

Quality used cars from mainstream brands such as Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia, Suzuki, Nissan and Renault, plus low-mileage newer models. Stock is nationwide, so you can rent to own in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and every other major centre — you pick your car after you are approved.

How long does it take to get the car?

Get an initial outcome in 60 seconds. Follow-up feedback may take up to 24 hours, and most approved applicants are driving within 2–7 business days.

Do I own the car at the end of the rent-to-own term?

You have the option to. EzAuto owns the vehicle for the duration of the rental, and at the end of the 60-month term you can take up the purchase option for R5,000. It stays a rental agreement throughout — it is not vehicle finance and not a loan.

How long is the rental agreement?

The standard rental term is 60 months. You may rent the vehicle for as long as you like, but the option to purchase for R5,000 is available after completing 60 months.

What value of vehicle do I qualify for?

Depending on your income, you can qualify for a vehicle valued anywhere from R80,000 to R500,000.

Yes. EzAuto requires a deposit upfront before delivery. Your deposit is typically between 10% and 50% of the vehicle value, and the exact amount is set during your approval based on the vehicle and your application profile.

Can I apply if I am blacklisted or under debt review?

Yes — you can still apply. We're a rental provider, not a lender, so we assess each application individually and focus on affordability and stable income.

Can I upgrade or swap the vehicle?

Yes. You can apply to upgrade your vehicle at the halfway point of your rental term (around 30 months), subject to EzAuto's standard criteria and approval process.

What type of vehicles do you offer?

We work with a large network of motor dealers and will purchase the vehicle of your choice from the dealers in our network and with most dealers outside of our dealership network.

Does the vehicle come with insurance?

Yes, all our cars are covered with comprehensive insurance. All vehicles are also covered for 24/7 roadside assistance.

Can I buy the car that I am renting?

Yes. You can purchase the vehicle from us at any time within the agreement. You also have the option to buy the vehicle at the end of the agreement (60 months) for R5,000.

Is rent-to-own the same as rent-to-buy?

Yes. Rent-to-own and rent-to-buy are two names for the same product in South Africa: a fixed-term vehicle rental with an option to own the vehicle at the end of the term. Some providers market it as rent-to-buy; EzAuto uses rent-to-own. The weekly rental, rental deposit and option to own work the same way.
